John Mathers new Chief Executive: A threesome Change in Design Council

John MathersThe Design Council recently adapted to three major changes in its Cabe Team. John Mathers has been appointed as new Chief Executive, while joining him is David Waterhouse as the new head of Programme Development and Alan Thompson as new Head of Design Review.

“This is an exciting time for us – we have developed new services and refined existing ones, and the feedback from our clients has been extremely positive. Both David and Alan will play a crucial role developing our programmes and I am confident with their help that Cabe will provide great services” commented Nahid Majid, Director of the Cabe Team at the Design Council.

With John Mathers joining as Chief Executive, and having over 30 years experience coming from Holmes & Merchant Group, creativity will be at its best, among the various roles he has excelled in, including Head of Brand at Safeway, design consultancy in mid 1990’s and the likes. It is interesting to know that Mathers is known as a highly committed person in the design industry, being President of Design Business Association for 3 successful years; also Spokesperson for 20:20 Mentoring Scheme. His take on this major career development is phrased as “Excited & Pleased”, very likely as he aims to to make the company an independent champion of the power of design.

The Programme Development welcomed David Waterhouse as its new Head, who bid goodbye to JBP PR & Parliamentary Affairs as an Associate Director and Head of Local Government Affairs. David holds a very firm and impressive history. Prior to JBP’s David Headed Planning and Renewal in the Housing and Growth Directorate at the Dept for Communities and Local Government (CLG) across England, dealing directly in Housing Market Renewal. Keeping up with the glorious record, David also worked with Town and Country Planning Summer School as Director and Deputy Treasurer, along with Planning Aid for London as Trustee and Honorary Treasurer. Design Council look out to engross excellent work from this new change in position.

The third good news for Design Council is the Alan Thompson as Cabe’s new head of Design Review, jumping up from Senior Advisor between 2009 and 2011. Alan is a well trained in architecture and Urban Planning, also including education and the likes. In the tenure of 2009-2011 with CABES’s, Alan has been lead advisor for London 2012 and Olympic Legacy Panels and CABES’s Crossial Panel. In CABES’s, Alan has reviewed Europe’s largest Infrastructure, National Panel, School Review Panel (includes 300+ projects).

Putting up such high standards in the design industry, we look forward to the epic changes Design Council will embark in future.
