All-White Bedrooms – Turning Your Room Into a Blank Canvas
When you think of an all-white bedrooms, do you picture a hospital room or an uncomfortably trendy hotel rooms? Common misconceptions about using white as the main theme of a bedroom is that it is boring or uninviting. But there are ways to create a beautiful and cozy monochromatic chamber that is light, bright, white and a beautiful sight.
Texturize
Think of your bedroom as a blank canvas. Instead of being boring, it is an ever-changing masterpiece. Tori Golub, a New York City designer, on ElleDecor.com said, “White on white with white bed linens creates a sumptuous form. Shadows become colors, texture becomes a focal point and the room changes in every light.”
A velvety white duvet cover paired with silky sheets and over-size pillows will have you yearning for bed time. When using one color, get creative with textures, fabrics and combining different styles to produce a look that is almost “sculptural,” as Golub points out.
Not all-white bedrooms are the same
You know all of those paint samples with creative names? Eggshell white, dove white, linen white, country white, cream white, seashell white the list is endless. The fact is, yes, there is a difference. Some whites have subtle hints of blue, pink or yellow. Others are pale and some are striking.
Before you start grabbing all-white bedrooms decor related stuff, make sure the shades blend well together. Using a few different shades can give your room a nice flow, but don’t be fooled because whites can clash with whites. A helpful tip: Grab some of those paint swatches from a home improvement store (they are usually free) and pick two or three shades that go well together. Use these as a guide when picking out linens, window treatments, rugs and decor for your bedroom, so everything matches and blends harmoniously.
You don’t have to chain yourself to white, either. Add accents of natural wood, exposed brick or concrete and pops of black or turquoise.
It’s not what you can do with white, but what white can do for your bedroom
Decorating with white has more benefits than you may think. White can instantly make your bedroom space seem bigger, brighter and cleaner. If you have a problem with too little space or poor lighting, using white in your bedroom can produce some impressive results without requiring expensive renovations or having to buy new lighting fixtures.
White is also a “noise-cancelling” color. Replacing the multitude of hues in your room with simple tranquil white will create an atmosphere of peace and simplicity — ideal when you want a place you can relax and feel “Zen.”
White is quite flexible when choosing textures and styles. When you don’t have the distraction of color, you focus on the softness of fabrics, the beauty of textures and the comfort of the material in your all-white bedrooms.
